Dan Gallo and Chuck Akers, morning co-hosts at Cox Media Group classic country “Country Legends 97.1” KTHT Houston, have exited. Gallo, who had been with the station for 14 years, confirmed the news to Country Insider on Thursday. “It's a companywide reorganization they're going through right now,” Gallo tells Country Insider. “Chuck Akers and I were let go [Thursday] morning.

“What's happening here is really the economy of scale in the radio business, and I have no ill feelings to anybody over there.”

The Texas Radio Hall of Famer says he plans to stay in the Houston market, where he has been for 50 years. Before KTHT, he was at then-CBS Radio “100.9 The Bull” KILT for 21 years.

“Something like this really brings home the impact that you've had on a large number of people,” Gallo, who spent Thursday answering calls, emails and Facebook messages from colleagues and listeners, says.

Gallo is looking for his next opportunity and can be reached here.

The layoffs were announced at a meeting Thursday and are said to be part of larger CMG cutbacks in numerous markets, including Orlando, Miami, Jacksonville, Nassau-Suffolk and San Antonio. San Antonio layoffs reportedly include Chris Cardenas, morning show producer and nighttime personality at “Y100” KCYY.
