The second annual “Radio Cares – Feeding America” will be held on April 14. The fundraising event is a partnership between the Independent Broadcasters Association (IBA) and Feeding America and will be produced by Benztown, with assistance from McVay Media and Vipology. Major sponsors this year include GenMedia Partners and Sun Broadcast Group.
Tools necessary for the participating stations will be available for pre-promotion beginning March 31 and the window for donations will be open through April 18. According to a release, “Radio Cares – Feeding America” will have the support of more than 100 artists representing every format.
Radio Cares 2020 was supported by 3,400 radio stations and raised $500,146, which provided five million meals for people facing hunger. After the first-year results, which led to the creation of the IBA, it was determined that the event continue annually. Last year’s event was spearheaded by Adams Radio Group CEO Ron Stone and Brian Philips, Executive VP, Content & Audience, Cumulus Media. Cumulus Media stations participated in the initiative in 2020.
“The Radio Cares drive this year promises to be an event every independent station will want to participate in,” Stone, who is also President of the IBA, said in a release. “Every family deserves to have sufficient resources for food for their family and no one should be going hungry in America.”
“As a result of the pandemic, more and more American families are facing hunger and relying on their local food banks,” Casey Marsh, Chief Development Officer at Feeding America added. “Partnerships with organizations like the Independent Broadcasters Association help provide critical support through nourishing food to our neighbors facing tough times.”
All materials needed for the event, including on-air, websites and social media, will be provided by the Radio Cares Team. Registration information can be viewed HERE. During the fundraising event window, stations will direct listeners to their individual station web site to donate. The donations will go directly to Feeding America. An ongoing accounting of total donations will be available.
